When Does Warning Become Scaremongering?
Touching Distance: "A Dying Breed" written by Ju Chen & illustrated by Gabriel Caitano

Scaremongering under the guise of warning has long been exposed as a rather lucrative profession. So how does one discern between the two?

As more of us awaken, we have come to realize that, contrary to what we’ve been led to believe most of our lives, humans are not the highest part of the cosmic food chain. Plenty of predatory and parasitic entities exist out there in the universe that would be eager to prey on us, should they be granted the opportunity.

Many have taken it upon themselves to be beacons of humanity’s new-found awareness, shining light on the extent of darkness that has infiltrated this world. But a wise man once said: “Whoever battles monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster”.

How do we maintain this balance? If we habitually look away from the horrors, only speaking of love and light, we risk falling into the trap of “spiritual bypass”.

There is no easy answer. As I intended to show in this scene from “A Dying Breed”, no one – and no singular approach – is right all the time.
