Activating Your Superpowers: An Exciting Journey of Discovery

The concept of human beings possessing superpowers has long captured our collective imagination. In these times of awakening and revelation, it is becoming abundantly clear this has always been an idea grounded in reality, not fantasy as some would have you believe.

Since I became aware of the holographic nature of reality, I have explored the possibility of developing special abilities such as those displayed in superhero comics and the Matrix and Star Wars movies. The question I ponder is not whether I can but how and, more importantly, why?

Most of us are familiar with the phrase: with great power comes great responsibility. To me, what it presents is not a warning but an invitation. We are all powerful beings, and the question we must ask ourselves before we seek to activate any ability is – what do we wish to be responsible for?

A commonly occurring trope in fiction is that of characters acquiring superpowers they never asked for, never expected to have, and do not know how to control. Usually this is viewed as both blessing and curse. In the pilot episode for the 1970s TV adaptation of The Incredible Hulk, David Bruce Banner (played by Bill Bixby) is a scientist researching incidents of humans performing feats of strength far beyond what they are normally capable of. He discovers these incidents correlated with high sunspot activity where large quantities of gamma rays were emitted. Another common denominator is they occurred during desperate, life-or-death moments where the safety of a loved one was at stake.

Banner ends up experimenting on himself, subjecting his body to controlled doses of gamma radiation which alter his DNA, giving him the super-strength he sought. The catch is that he only possesses that strength when he transforms into a raging green hulking beast in moments of extreme duress.

I have never viewed Banner’s predicament as a curse or punishment, just a consequence of the choice he made. Driven by grief over the tragic death of his wife Laura and his inability to rescue her from a crashed car, Banner becomes so obsessed with discovering the secret to gaining superhuman strength that he never asks himself why he wants to, when he can never bring Laura back? This amateur psychoanalyst speculates that Banner was motivated by guilt and anguish of which the Hulk became the physical embodiment, one that would in turn also bring karmic resolution and healing to his deep wound. Though he could not turn back time and rescue his wife, Banner becomes an accidental superhero of sorts, often finding himself in situations where he would transform into his monstrous alter ego and perform the kind of rescue he wishes he had been able to for Laura.

The strange case of Doctor Banner represents a phase many of us go through where we are afraid of our shadow and constantly running away from it. When we let go of this denial of our true power and potential, and the responsibility and consequences that come with it, we begin to evolve. The Earth human collective is on the cusp of this evolution. For too long, the majority has either fearfully suppressed their power or wantonly unleashed it in terrible fits of destruction. To transcend this cycle and properly utilize our capabilities, we must develop our knowledge and understanding of what they are.

When discussing superpowers, many will have glorious visions of performing levitation, telekinesis, or feats of amazing strength and speed. And in the course of human history, there must have been a few who possessed such glamorous abilities. But who would favor those over, say, the power to heal yourself and others of any and all ailments? Some might. Ultimately, the usefulness of any power comes down to what each of us feels called to do in this life. Which is why it is imperative we explore the activation of our superpowers alongside the quest to align with our soul purpose. If the two are not sought concurrently, conflict becomes the inevitable consequence.

Conflicts arise when what our conscious mind thinks we need or want is not in harmony with what our soul truly desires. It has taken me the better part of two decades to learn this, from when I first discovered I had the ability – as we all do – to influence reality with my thoughts. Manifestation – the universal superpower – works, I can attest to it. Billy Carson’s Conscious Thought + Action = Manifestation formula is very effective, with the key ingredient I would add being emotion. But here’s another familiar phrase: be careful what you wish for. Again, not a warning but an invitation. Actually, I would change it to: be mindful what you wish for. In order to control what we manifest, we have to also be in control of our thoughts and emotions. That is challenging enough when it comes to conscious thought, but what of our subconscious desires? Sometimes, the heart wants what it wants, and we just have to get out of our own way.

The “gifts” I have manifested came in various forms. The place I call home, relationships I cherish, opportunities for pleasure, enrichment, and growth. I am eternally grateful for them, even the ones that provided hard lessons, situations I invited which I later had to extricate myself from. It all comes down to knowing thyself.

The more we go within, connect with our higher self and inner child, and integrate our shadow, the better we will be able to create the reality we desire. Even the most powerful being in the cosmos can benefit from this approach, for true power does not only manifest externally.
